"A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and green."

This novel, maybe more than any other I've read, shows how important friendship is in a world that can be cruel and unfair. Lenny and George, even Candy, Crooks and Curley's...

When I reread it years later, I liked it much more.

This book left me speechless , surprised , stunned, shocked , and laughing for the development of the plot.It all seemed real at first and then seemed unbelievable at the end.

I enjoyed this book. I read it for school and thought it was very good. It was definitely sad, though.

Of course I think this is a really good book. That is why I chose it for a read aloud to my students. It really helps you to see what some peoples' lives were like during the Depression.

I love everything I have read that Steinbeck wrote, and I think he defines the American experience as well as or better than any other American author, ever. But, while everyone's eyes are on the Grapes of Wrath (which is great, to be sure), I find this quick little novel more readily accessible (especially for younger readers, which I was when I first read it) and more immediately moving. One of the great classics that is utterly worthy of having earned its place in the canon.
