Just what my friend Kate said it would be: a great light read. The heroine is charming and skilled at a strangely endearing specialty--"picking" through junk to find beautiful old stuff and sometimes true antiques. What a life! The chef who offers her a bit of romance and maybe more is just the kind of delight one needs in a quick summer read. It's not quite summer, but Mary Kay Andrews promises to make this summer cool, since she has a LOT of books out there and I've just discovered her.

I got MKA's "Blues" series as a gift from my mom one year. I didn't know anything about the author and I admit, I had so many books already on my TBR nightstand pile, these lingered on the bookshelf for awhile. When I finally read Savannah Blues, I tore through it in a night or two and quickly followed up with Savannah Breeze and Blue Christmas. Very fun, fast reads for lovers of books with sassy, Southern humor. Great for vacation reads!

Loved the references to Savannah landmarks. And if you like to check out estate sales there are lots of references on how to be a "picker". Romance, sex and a mystery. Entertaining.

Cute, but parts like determining when Caroline was killed (I think I watch too much CSI) probably could have helped the story along. It was exciting about uncovering items that were sold from the property. And them making up in the last chapter- they didn't even resolve why they fought in the first place.

I love the style. Makes you almost believe you really are sitting in Savannah Georgia! Just the right dose of humor and mystery (plus a tad of romance).

This is a chick book. So why did I read it? After a family vacation to Savannah, I craved to learn more about the area and get a flavor for the people. I had read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and bought non-fiction books about the area but wanted more. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I searched Amazon for books with "Savannah" in the title and found this. The cover almost made me skip it but I read the free trial and became interested in the story of the neglected plantation and the people who I imagined were going to save it. Not too many chapters in, the story hinted at a love connection and I rolled my eyes. I grumbled to my wife that I was now expected rippling muscles, curled toes and throbbing...uh...hearts. I was partly right but was glad the author didn't delve too far into graphic lovemaking scenes. There are some steamy foreplay scenes but they didn't get very far. Anything more was implied, thankfully. I wasn't interested in the love story. Not that I don't appreciate love but I didn't want anything to do with a trashy summer paperback love story. I was able to move past those scenes pretty well and focus on the historical, mystery and character development aspects of the book and found those enjoyable. I won't tell my guy friends I read this book but overall I'm glad I did. I suspect women will find it even more enjoyable, as it seems written more for their enjoyment.
