Wisdom is journeying into the heart of evil(although she doesn't know it). She has rashly agreed to marry Roger, the son of an evil duchess named Whilhemina, and is traveling to his home to be married there(and this of course is the home of the evil Duchess). Roger isn't marrying her for love. He just wants the glory of having a Princess as a wife. And the duchess wants her son to marry the Princess because her sister, Temperance is the queen of Montague. Whilhemina plans to kill Temperance and have Roger marry Wisdom. After Roger marries Wisdom, she will kill Wisdom also and Roger(who is ultimately controlled by his mother Whilhemina)will rule Montague. The story is also about Tips(Tomas Muller) and Trudy(Fortitude). The two have been friends since birth and where raised in Bacio. Both their parents died(in different way) when they where young. Trudy is made a serving wench in the inn her mother worked for and Tips is made a slave and abused by his two selfish brothers. Luckily for Tips though, Puss in Boots( as you will find that's who he is at the end of the book) sees Tips's amazing acrobatic skill and handsomeness and barters with his brothers to let him go. Puss in Boots gets the two selfish brother's to let Tips go by telling them he is going to make Tips an Imperial Guard. But the cat is really taking him to Froglock to join a circus that was created for the royalty to watch. Trudy is in love with Tips and so Tips loves her too. They correspond via letter. But Tips lies about his job, He tells trudy he's an imperial guard b/c he's afraid she will accidentally slip and tell his brothers who he really is(a circus performer). Wisdom's party(still traveling to Whilhemina and Roger, who happen to live in Froglock....) eats some bad oysters and come down with terrible food poisoning. They stop at the inn Trudy is working at and are cared for there. The grandmother of the Queen(Benevolence) sees Trudy's extraordinary beauty(she has beautiful red hair) and invites her to join the part as a lady in waiting. Trudy accepts because Tips has just told her he cannot come back to Bacio to get her(because of his brothers) and she sees traveling with the party as a way to find her beloved. So they travel to Froglock and arrive at Whilhemina's with Trudy in tow. The circus made for royalty is there and they all go to see it(all except Trudy who still believes Tips is a guard and is looking for him among the guards) and Wisdom dances on the main attraction the golden ballon with an acrobat. She and the acrobat(who is really Tips) fall immediately in love. She does not want to marry Roger anymore but his evil mother forces them to by having the emperor proclaim the wedding to be the next day. But she and Tips devise a plan. But trudy sees the acrobat(Tips) that wisdom has fallen in love with and recognizes him to be Her Beloved, Tips, She is heartbroken and embarrassed that Tips loves another woman and lied to her all that time(about being a solider). Wisdom is married to Roger, but as they kiss to make it "official" she uses her magic to turn split herself into two, making her doppleganger. One of the doppleganger sleeps while the other is awake. Wisdom leaves the sleeping doppleganger in Roger's arms and ducks under a curtain, changing into peasants clothes. In the wedding Wilhemina had forced Wisdom to drink wine(a custom) so it looks like she poisoned "Wisdom" and that the Princess is "dead." Really she has escaped with Tips on the balloon. Trudy, in her greif, has fled Froglock and gone to Bacio. But Tips and Wisdom pick her up with their balloon. They go to Wisdom's sister's castle to rescue her from Wihemina. They succeed. Tips and Wisdom go back to the Circus with Wisdom under the name of Violet. Trudy finds that she and Temperence(the queen) are distant cousins and Trudy becomes the queens advisor. Trudy eventually marrys someone named Donald. THEE END
