Kipper was named the Best Children’s Book by Publishers Weekly in 2001. This book is appropriate for young children ages 3-5. Kipper the dog is looking for a new place to sleep because his bed is old and smelly. He goes out and looks at the homes of flowers, birds, sheep, frogs, and bunnies. He cannot sleep in any of their homes and comes back to his old smelly bed and realizes he likes it just the way it is, and falls asleep. This book has great illustrations and not a lot of words on a page, which is a great read aloud book that encourages interaction. Teachers can use this book to:
    • Teach about homes, animal homes, and student’s home
    • Different animals and ways of life
    • Connect to technology by showing the Kipper short films
    • Discuss how we sleep and with any special objects

    Category name: fantasy
