“Loved this-a behind-the-scenes look at Wickham's mind but it just ended rather abruptly. It would have been great if it had continued through his meeting with Lydia. Not sure if it was my digital copy or if it really did just stop.”LindseyH wrote this review Tuesday, September 6, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“At 195 pages this is a quick read, in fact I was done with it in a little over 3 hours.
Unfortunately, it is not the best that Grange has written. I was very disappointed in point of fact. There is little to really recommend in this book as it seems that Grange simply decided to make up some filler and throw in the Ramsgate incident at the last second....it makes up the last ten pages or so and then book abruptly ends.
Not worth the money I spent on it so I plan to return it, NOT something I do often, this would be the second time in my long history of purchasing books that I have returned a book after reading it because I was so displeased!”
“Grange has written a series of diaries of JA’s male characters from different books; I couldn’t help feeling, however, that this was a slack effort. The book is very short and simply details Wickham’s childhood (beginning age 12) through his attempted elopement with Georgiana. He comes across as a whining, entitled narcissist, with a mother much like Lydia Bennet, encouraging him to marry an heiress above all else. He whines and whines and is rather a bother to read. I know his character is meant to be the foil for Darcy, all that is bad when he is so good, but truly, giving him two hundred pages to bemoan his station and lounge about with fallen women is a bit much. Not Grange’s best effort.”Alethea wrote this review Friday, May 20, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Wickham's Diary covers the period from George Wickham youth to his attempted elopement with Georgianna Darcy. Wickham is my least favorite Austen character. This book did little to enhance my understanding or change my view.”Ann G wrote this review Friday, May 13, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
