A romance between a woman who has just escaped an abusive marriage and a retired army officer who protects her. This is a story filled with psychic premonitions, meaningful dreams, Central American and animal symbolism, and past life regression. The couple and her sister, a current army officer, are the main characters discovering the meaning and purpose of their experiences.

  • Daphne Robin: She finds herself in an abusive marriage. While sound asleep a man arrives in her dream to rescue her. To cope with her situation, she clings to her dreams, her classic guitar and knitting, and her hope that someday she will find the man of her dreams.
  • Deandra Robin: Daphne's younger sister. As a child, Deandra has nightmares of being a soldier in a battle to the death with Native Americans. She grows up to become a US Army officer.
  • Colonel Ursa-Barrios, aka The Major: The son of a gardener of Guatemalan descent, the Major has recently retired in Vancouver, Washington, from an honorable career with the US Army. But his lifelong dream was to follow in his father's footsteps as a gardener. He plays violin and is a friend of Deandra Robin.
  • Moonshadow: A stray cat that Daphne adopts.
  • Richard Gatorman: Daphne's abusive husband. Richard is a self-made businessman living in Albany, Oregon, with his business in Corvalis, Oregon.
  • Purvati: The Major's feline companion.
  • Rose Biegel: A retired Army officer and the Major's girlfriend.
