I have yet to discover why this play is so famous and good. I disliked the characters and well, am not going to see it or re-read it any time soon.

This play is about a couple. It is similar to A Street Car Named Desire where there is an underlying violence against the female roles in the play. This play written by John Osbourne is somewhat autobiographical. It displays a dysfunctional marriage between Jimmy and his wife Alison. Overall it shows the twentieth century generation's attitude towards soceity and the institution of marriage.

Though I don't enjoy reading plays- except those of Shaw, this is, definitely, one of the best plays I have ever read during my college years. Even though Jimmy Porter is not the kind of guy one would love to run into, Osborne succeeded in portraying one of the most amazing and unforgettable characters in the history of modern British drama. It's enough to say that some of Jimmy's quotes have been widely used to describe not only the predicament of the alienated, postwar British working class, but also to represent the dire circumstances of marginalized, frustrated people at large.

it's a play about isolation, falling more and more into isolation and the rage of not being able to come back, not even to be saved by love, it is about the frustration of not being able to reach fulfillment, the only reaction possible is that of hurting the colesest of people, it is a cry for help and unconditionate affection
