• Benny Imura: Main character whose parents became zombies on the First Night. His older half-brother, Tom, teaches him how to fight and survive. He is 15
• Tom Imura: Benny's older half-brother who is a zombie slayer. He teaches his brother and friends to fight and survive in the Ruin. Compassionate and his own form of justice. Considered a leader of the zombie hunters. Tom has spent 1/3 of his living in the mountains.
• Nix Riley: Benny's girlfriend whose mother was killed by Charlie Pink-Eye. She is taught by Tom how to fight. Red hair small feisty
• Chong: Benny's friend who is training with Tom, but is not going into the Ruin. He is Chinese, ascetic, and intelligent. he gets bit in the pit but doesnt die.
• Charlie Pink-Eye Matthias: A bounty hunter who killed Nix's mom, is evil and knows his way around the Ruin. He also goes to the towns to trade. is a zombie and gets the crap beat out of by nix
• Mrs. Riley: sweet old lady, funny, lost her husband and two sons during First Night dies
• Fran Kirsch: Wife of the mayor who took Nix to live with her
• Morgie Mitchell: One of Benny's good friends, is getting trained by Tom. he is a pussy who is scared of the rot and ruin and he punches benny in the face because nix wants benny more because benny isnt a pussy and nix doesnt want to date a guy is she is stronger than.
• Lilah: She is known as the Lost Girl. She is feral, moody, and speaks little. Her interest is in blades, guns, and violence. She has grown up in the ruins and recently has been living with Chong's family. gets molestet by the green man
• Grandpa Houser: Was kind and good and told good stories until he turned into a zom
• Zak Matthias: School mate of Benny. They have traveled in same circles of school age kids
• Big Zac Matthias: Drunk, abusive, and Charlie Pink-Eye's brother
• Captain Strunk: Town watch
• Preacher Jack: Quick with a knife and gives off bad vibes. Lives in the Ruin.
• Brother Davis: Runs a way station in the Rot and Ruin
• Shanti: Helps at the way station
• Old Roger: A zom cared for by Shanti, Brother Davis, and Sister Sarah
• Sister Sarah: helps at the way station
• Mr Feeney: Scout Master
• George: Raised Lilah after the First Night and taught her how to survive in the Rot and Ruin
• Annie: Lilah's little sister who died in Gameland
• Dr. Skillz: An unaffiliated bounty hunter and friend of Tom Imura. Best known for his "surfer dude" persona, his carpet coat that's reinforced by licence plates, and his heavy spear with a sharp blade on one end and a crushing sphere of metal on the other.
• Greenman: An unaffiliated loner who lives in the Ruin. Called the Greenman because of his mastery of camouflage.
• Sally Two-knives: Unaffliated bounty hunter and friend of Tom Imura. A former roller-derby queen, now known for her mohawk and twin Bowie knives.
• White Bear: A burn-scarred giant of a man who's taking over Charlie Pinkeye's old territory.
• Gameland: Add a description of this character.
• Brother David: A member of a religious order that view zombies as the meek who are going to inherit the Earth. Calls them the "Children of Lazarus" and resents the words "zombie" and "zom."
• Solomon Jones: Unaffiliated bounty hunter and friend of Tom Imura. Known for his twin machetes.
