“A fitting ending to an incredibly epic series. No loose ends left; everything was accounted for. Scott truly is a master of fantasy. ”Carla wrote this review Thursday, October 24, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“A book I recently read was called The Enchantress, by Michael Scott. A fantasy book and the last to conclude an exciting yet mind boggling series. The book concludes the series and more suited towards a young adult crowd. The story takes place in a few different places. One of them being San Francisco, one being Paris and one on an ancient island that existed long ago. The events that occurred in these places made way for characters in the book show heroism, an ongoing theme of this book. Michael Scott develops characters by slowly increasing their courage and making them more confident in what actions they choose to do. A book that has a similar theme is Percy Jackson. In both these books, the main character is a hero who lived a safe, sheltered life before he got involved in certain things. Both books use a theme of heroism and the character matures during the course of the story.
In The Enchantress, two twins which were the main characters (Josh and Sophie) were very close together as siblings. What Michael Scott then does is he makes Josh make a difficult choice between the good and bad side. Him and his sister Sophie, fall out and although Sophie would stop at nothing to be with him again, he just didn’t love her anymore. The author decides to this because of the theme. With events and conflicts like these arising in the book, Sophie had to stand up and be heroic in trying to be with her brother. By giving these opportunities to characters, Michael Scott is maturing them through these difficult choices and challenges that they have to face.
The two characters, although they might be twins are completely different. Josh being a protective brother, and very, very suspicious of others. Sophie being a person who trusted others fairly easily compared to Josh and very social and likable. I feel that the author decided to do this and make the closest characters in the book opposites to have a bit of contrast. If they were the same, the story would be less exciting. Sophie was a lovable person while Josh took a while to get used to being around. Both twins being together most of the time, the immediate contrast would always get the reader excited. More with the characters, one thing I really enjoyed that the author did very well was talking from different perspectives. In the book, every chapter could happen at the same exact time, except people will just be doing different things and therefore the reader could tell what the character was thinking even though they might be in two different places.
Josh and Sophie are two of the biggest main characters throughout the series. Sophie got along with others nicely, just talked and became friends with people around her. On the other hand, Josh was a nice person at heart, but still a little impractical when it comes to matters which use the brain a little. The clear contrast of these characters really play and fit together during the story. And since they are both twins and all they have for each other, it really makes the reader enjoy what he’s reading. One big thing that Josh did that changed the book completely was changing sides. Dr.John Dee another main character but who’s the main antagonist as well was the one who tricked Josh into coming into the bad side. Josh happily agreed, his thoughts clouded by the magic of Dr.Dee and therefore he changed his destiny. I feel that in the book this section was rather great but also made the reader want to like Sophie more. The way the reader uses Josh and Sophie, is like saying the good twin and the bad twin. The good one being Sophie of course. I feel that what Josh did was irrational and uncalled for. Just because his mentor wasn’t telling him everything he knew, doesn’t mean Josh had to distrust him completely and join a side where there would be no humans if all went to plan. I don’t deny that I loved reading it, but now this just makes everyone dislike Josh all the more.
In conclusion, I feel that The Enchantress by Michael Scott is an amazing work of fantasy. The ending of the book was extremely unpredictable and enjoyable, although it messes with your mind just a little. The book had different elements that the author used. And by using the theme, the actions of characters and the style he wrote the book, really got my attention towards him. For my friends, I feel I would definitely recommend this book as it is one of those few that you can’t put down after you’ve read a couple of words. The book, all in all, was a great book and I’m glad I read this.
“As the last book in the series, I think it is the best. This is when Nicholas and Pernelle are about to die without the codex. This left me hanging to see whether they would get the Codex. Josh and Sophie are in Danu Talis trying to figure out who Isis and Osiris are and what they are doing there. I love this book.”The Law wrote this review Wednesday, October 16, 2013. “One of the best endings I've read in a while...
Everything fell into place and I really liked it... Looking forward to another series of Michael Scott :)”
“ Brief Synthesis:
This book is called The Enchantress by Michael Scott. On a island called Danu Talis a boy must fulfill his destiny that takes a lot of sacrifices. He has to do this because he is one of the twins of the legend. He is the only one who can do it. His destiny is to destroy the island. He has to do it or there won’t be a human world. His name is Josh and his sister’s name is Sophie. Sophie is also special but Josh convinced Sophie that he has to do it because he is older than her. Josh has a Golden aura and Sophie has a silver aura both of them are really rare which makes them really powerful. This book is mainly about one’s destiny and one’s courage to fulfill that destiny.
Analysis of Entertainment Value:
Would you recommend this book to a friend?
Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend. This book is about one’s destiny and one’s courage to fulfill that destiny. They should really read this book because, it is about one’s hardships and sacrifices to fulfill and reach that destiny. There are many main characters in this book. many of them fulfill their destiny, but all of them do it in a different way. Some sacrificed themselves so others would have better futures. I decided to read this book because it is about sacrifices and I really wanted to read a book about sacrifices. Sacrifices can be really hard in different ways. The harder they are the more interesting the book is. The sacrifices that include deaths are really interesting because they must be a reason they died. Some died so others would have a better future.
