Following the murder of her father, Mya Cotton is left bitter, heartbroken, and a secret trust inheritance of two million dollars. With it comes a neglected cemetery called Idlewild, which her father specifically gives her because it is sentimental to him. As Mya sets out to solve the mystery of the cemetery, her anger is fueled by Marco De La Zahn, the equally cynical, unnaturally handsome estate attorney who courts her. In stark contrast, showing up on her doorstep one night is her homeless new groundskeeper, Percival Shelby, another curiously handsome man who speaks of love and caring for others as the key to true happiness. It's only when Mya makes a life changing decision that she learns the real identity of the two men in her life vying for her love, and is able to solve Idlewild's final mystery and fulfill her father's last wishes.

  • Mya Cotton: The main character, 27 year old single woman, an artist who lives in St. Augustine, Florida, likes grunge rock music, torrid romance novels, and anything historical. Following the death of her father, her only wish is to be happy again, but isn't sure how to go about it. He's also manipulative and insensitive, but Mya becomes completely infatuated with him namely because he's drop-dead gorgeous and claims to be madly in love with her.
  • Mr. Singletary: Idlewild's first groundskeeper.
  • Briggs: The limo driver.
  • Mercedes Ripple: Mya's longtime friend and confidante

  • “"Wait until you see how normal and emotionally stable I can be. You're going to fall head over heels for me."”
    Mya Cotton
  • “"It's ironic isn't it? The real reason you're so angry with me is because you didn't want anything bad to happen to me. Well, I didn't want anything bad to happen to you either. I would go to any extreme to keep you safe from harm. This was nothing. Tonight was practically routine with you. By the way, don't bother to thank me. I'm used to that too."”
    Percival Shelby/ Pershabael
