Didn’t Like It“Ultimately a dull, lacklustre portrait of a fascinating woman. Kiernan seems reluctant to push any boundaries, borrowing heavily from the late Mrs. Astor's memoirs. “Biography of Brooke Russell Astor 1902-2006. Her 3rd husband Vincent Astor died in '59 after 6 years of marriage. He left 67M to the V. Astor Foundation and the same amt to her. As president of the foundation she used the money to benefit NYC. She visited every grant applicant. Other foundations used her judgement as 'a Good Housekeeping seal of approval' and also gave money if she did. She was wonderful!”

Kiernan seems reluctant to push any boundaries, borrowing heavily from the late Mrs. Astor's memoirs. Honestly, the only thing this book made me want to do was pick up a copy of 'Footprints' since it seems like it would be far more interesting. Clearly, she meant it to be a fond portrayal of a woman whose public image can be polarizing, but the awkward writing style and broad narrative just bores the reader. Once she got to Mrs. Astor's involvement in the Vincent Astor Foundation, she lost me completely. ”
