I miss Buffy so much... These graphic novels are good, but I would have rather Joss had continued making those awesome TV shows. At any rate, this is the last of the Season 8 issues collected into a graphic novel, and I can't tell you about it without spoiling the whole series. Suffice is to say, if you don't have it, but are a Buffy fan, you really ought to add this to your collection.

*SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS ULTRA FRIGGIN SPOILERS*

Okay....this is the final volume of season 8 and I have many things to talk about. First off - the return of Spike....with a spaceship piloted by bugs? Yeah, I was pretty much WTF-ing about that too. Also the return of THE MASTER. He's still snarky as ever and at that point I was just confused. I was pretty damn happy he got killed. Again. One of the final moments that bothered me the most was Giles being killed. This, I was not happy about. Actually, that's a f-ing understatement. I was PISSED OFF. ANGRY. Just TORN. I seriously could not believe Joss did this to him....Giles was my second favorite character...I loved him. I don't care if Giles' death sets something up for season 9, they could have killed someone else! I don't think I've ever cried so much for the death of a fictional character. I think what made it worse was the fact that he was killed by ANGEL. Well, not really Angel but it was still him!! This would have gotten five stars if Giles had lived, but because he didn't...this gets three.

Rest in peace, Giles. You were the best & you didn't deserve to go out like that. :'(

Spike! Giles:/ Good stuff here - keep fighting the good fight. Interesting outcome with Faith.

My issues with Joss Whedon continued to show through as I read the final volume in Buffy Season 8: Last Gleaming. I simply do not like it when he is the main writer. Either of episodes or of comic books. I’m not a fan. But on the whole I enjoyed S8. I liked the way that Buffy had to take on the mantle of leadership and all that entailed. I liked the new roles and responsibilities that she and all the Scoobies enjoyed.

Joss Whedon brings Buffy fans to the conclusion of the comic season 8 with an epic battle that brings back most of their favorite characters as well as a return to the roots of what really made the series so popular to begin with. Demons from an alternate dimension are flooding into our's, and it is going to take everything Buffy has got to beat them back. Once again, it is the Scooby gang up to prevent Armageddon

Spike returns with the help of an insectoid crew aboard a bio-blimp with some information that will help Buffy sort out just what needs to be done. He is just in time! Buffy has been branded a terrorist by the government because of the slayer army that has been working across the world to fend back the dark forces of evil, while not being so quiet about it. This is probably why she is willing to work with a secret government agency (and an old friend) when they come calling to lend a hand.

I thought this was a really great way to end the season. While I have enjoyed reading the books, I was thrilled that Joss Whedon made the decision to return back to the things that made the franchise so tremendously popular to begin that. While the comic season 8 removed a lot of the budgetary constraints to television storytelling, the really great Buffy was not always about epic battles. While this story specifically does rely on that plot device, it also allows the Buffyverse to reset itself back to the beginning in a way. Definitely a great read.

I am already looking forward to season 9!

I found this finale to season 8 a little confusing. So glad they are working on season 9!
