“A great escape novel! A story of love, betrayal and an old diary that links the past with the present!”Eadie B wrote this review 3 weeks ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“I loved this book! A story with characters old and new, a diary, and so much more.
From the back cover: In a mystical place where violets bloom out of season and the air is salt drenched, a heartbroken woman stumbles upon a diary and steps into the life of its anonymous author. - A story that will captivate you, a story of love, betrayal and the twists and turns of the past, for anyone who has ever lost love or lost herself. A great read, that you will definately need a box of tissues nearby.”

“Beautifully written! Sarah Jio is my new found favorite author!
This book is about love lost, love kept, love love love!!!!”
“One of the hallmarks of women's fiction is that it is about personal growth. There was no real transformation here, the happy ending feels unearned. It was written like a bad romance--why oh why don't people ask if they think someone is cheating on them? I always think that is a cheap plot device--an attempt to scare up dramatic tension. I felt no real emotional connection to the characters and it was only the historical aspect that kept me interested, but the historical details were sketchy. The writing was passable, but nothing exciting. The was a debut, so maybe the other books are better.”Chicago Librarian wrote this review Sunday, August 11, 2013. “A mystery circling a twisted love story. I always looked forward to opening the book, but it was more for the exposer to the family secrets than the characters. They were likable, not lovable. Well written with beautiful prose. I recommend this book as a fun, quick, lighthearted read. ”Sandy B Groovy wrote this review Saturday, July 27, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “I wanted to love this book, but I just found myself disappointed. The setting is lovely and the plot has promise, but the novel never quite reached its potential as either a contemporary romance or a sweeping historical. The characters are flat, the romance is far too "insta-love" for a serious adult novel, and there are too many coincidences for the story to really be believable. What could have been a beautiful generational story ultimately felt unpolished, contrived and juvenile. ”Kimberly C wrote this review Friday, July 12, 2013. “This book was a good read, though at the end the "mystery" makes you want to say, "Really, Sarah Jio? THAT is your idea of a mystery? Everybody's name is different than it was during their youth?" But I can accept it because all my friends from high school call me something other than my real name. I liked the story, though I think Ester was a wee bit on the dramatic side and it all could've been solved with a good sit down talk.”Lindsey H wrote this review Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
