Nook Book-M @ 2010, 12/12. The true story of Lionel Logue helping King Edward VI to conquer his stuttering impediment, quite like the movie of the same name, but explains more of Logue's life and goes through the death of the King and Logue. Very good.

Very well done look at both the lives of Lionel Logue and King George VI as far as how their lives intersected and each was so profoundly affected by their professional relationship.

Very very good book! Have never seen the movie, but would rather read a book over a movie of it anyday.

The book complements the movie, and loved them both. Big fan of history...

i listened tp this while we drove to KC and then at home. Iam glad I listened istead of read it because there are recording of the King speaking on it. Fascinating what he did, all with very little to no training.

the king's speech by mark logue & peter condradi, read by jamie glover.
    download 7 hours 6 mins.
having watched the film the king's speech i decided to listen to the book. written by lionel logue's grandson and peter condradi this book gives more details of logue's life than the film. it covers his life before logue became king george VI's (bertie) speech therapist to past the kings death to his own death aged 73.
i don't usually listen to autobiogtaphies/biographies and have to admit i enjoyed this one. i came away feeling admiration for both men: logue for his patience and understanding and bertie for his hard work and determination to beat his stammer and fear of the microphone as well as following in the footsteps of his father to give the christmas speeches throughout his reign. elizabeth (who became a much loved queen mother) played a major part too in helping and encouraging bertie when he needed it most.
    well performed by jamie glover.
    4 stars.

Such an interesting view of this small part of history. Really made me want to learn more about 20th century British history.

A very good book. I learned a lot about the history of the British Monarchy - especially during the first half of the 20th century. This book gives a great behind- the-scenes look at the Royals and shows them as the real-life, flesh and blood people they are. Now, I'm off to find the movie...
