A pulsating metallic sphere, of unknown origin, is discovered buried within a mound of rock on Mars. The astronauts, scientists, who find it, while investigating the unexplored region, cannot determine its origin.
Is it someone’s old space probe? Or is it the remains of a space vehicle?
They find rock encrusting its surface, and that it proves it has been there for thousands of years. There are no clues to its origin! They cannot determine anything else, and they take it back to the Earth with them to allow it to be investigated.
It is an alien artifact, of no known origin, made from an unknown metal.
What is it for? What use has it? What was it doing on Mars? Why has it a mysterious pulsation? What could be hidden in its interior?
The main story The Black Hole Experiments, of the two sci-fi stories, also explores the concept of black holes in a laboratory and their potential use. And their effect on space & time - with their effect of altering time being like sculpturing glass.
I’d almost forgotten what “great” sci-fi was like until I read this book.
It was a wonderful discovery, where the speed of the space vehicle in Beyond Space and Time increases faster than anything before, going millions of times higher than the speed of light! It has an incredible new & revolutionary way to propel its way through the galaxies!
