This is an amzing book! JRR Tolkien is such a brilliant writer!! Descriptions are so vivid that it seems like this world really exists. This book comes to life. JRR Tolkien gets into the mind of his many characters, giving them a personality fit for their detailed description. I recommend this...

Love the story, can't stand the writing style. For once, I actually prefer the movies to the books.

This is the first time I have read the Lord of the Rings, and I really liked it! It was great adventure. The only complaint I have is that sometimes his descriptions are really long. I really enjoyed the book though, the characters especially were great fun.

Everything, from the writing itself to the characters to the morals, was well developed. While reading this, it did not seem to me so much as fiction as fact- every word was written with confidence, which leads me to believe that, certainly, the adventure of Frodo and his Companions must be real.

It takes awhile to get into but ultimately picks up enough to grasp the reader. Tolkien certainly enjoys his own voice and poetry, as the book is litered with 'songs of old.' In this he takes too much time, but he is also aware of it. In an interview and in the forward he admits to writing the book for mainly himself, which dictates the endless, on-going, infinite descriptions and poetry and songs and yet more descriptions. However, it is an enjoyable tale, and should the reader be able to trudge through the rather hard to read parts, he'll be all the better.

I love these books. I read it for the first time about fifteen years ago but came back to it this summer. It's a wonderful book to climb into.

Frodo Baggins knew the Ringwraiths were searching for him--and the Ring of Power he bore that would enable Sauran to destroy all that was good in Middle-earth. Now it was up to Frodo and his faithful servant Sam to carry the Ring to where it could be detroyed--in the very center of Sauron's dark kingdom.
