FotR does drag a bit right in the early middle. Stick to it though! You'll be proud of yourself having read it.

I've tried to read it twice now, and failed horibly both times. I will finish it and then the other two some day. I promise myself that. I also want to read the Silmarillion, too.

As a female I just wish there were more female characters in LOTR. Does anyone feel the same way? I suppose it is of it's time, and it after all it is basically about WAR but still it just seems women are invisible in this novel, apart from Galadriel and that Elf..can't remember her name.. would we have ruined the fantasy?
