    Well written English mystery with Lawrence Kingston, retired professor of botany, as the main character who is hired to conduct an independent inquiry. He becomes involved in a dangerous old family feud, a suspicious poisoning and threats, leading him to fear for his own life.
    To solve the secret of the past and crimes of the present, he must decipher a complex code hidden in the walls of an old manor house. I really enjoyed the style of writing the wonderful descriptive language and the use of codes and ciphers.

    Kingston and his friend, Andrew, solve a secret code and find hidden gold. They also solve two murders and a conspiracy of sorts. Kingston finds a new lady friend.
