Sayre Bellavia gets news that her mother is dying. As she makes her way to the hospital to see her mother one more time, she reflects on the life that she had with her mother.

  • Sayre Bellavia: Main protagonist of the story. Comes from a broken home and a drug addicted mother.
  • Dianne Huff: Sayre's mother. Addicted to drugs and alcohol. One of the two antagonists of the story. Had Sayre at 15.
  • Candy: Dianne's only friend. Got her addicted to drugs. The second antagonist of the novel. She's a terrible person that treats everyone like garbage. Abusive.
  • Miss Mo: One of the only people who cared for Sayre. Was murdered by her daughter's crazy ex-boyfriend
  • Harlow: Murdered Miss Mo. Befriends Dianne and Candy after leaving the mental hospital. Addicted to drugs and alcohol.
  • Beale: The main male character in the novel. Sayre thinks of him as a father figure.
  • Aunt Loretta: The mother to Beale. Treats Sayre with love and respect, something Sayre has been missing from her life. Considers Sayre one of her own children
