The Giver, by Lois Lowry
The book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is about the world in a very strange condition where nobody knows what has happened before them. This book is in the future when scientists make everybodythe same, and there are no colors in the world. The main character, is Jonas who is going to be twelve in a couple of months, and when you are twelve youget the job that was chosen for you by people who have watched you throughout your life. Jonas doesn’t like this because he is afraid that he will get the worst job. His sister, Lily, is a little eight-year-old who doesn’t think before she says something. There are speakers in each house so people can hear announcements. When Jonas goes to the ceremony of twelve, he is a nervous wreck. They go in order by name for everybody who is twelve. When they get toJonas, they skip over his name and go to the next kid, then Jonas was afraid that he would not get his chosen job. When they get to the last kid, they say Jonas’s name next for a special reason. He has been chosen to be the person who holds all wisdom. The person who is it now is very old, and he is the giver of memories. Jonas has to go to training, and it is a very different experience. He learns colors, seasons of the year, animals, and special things that have a meaning to him. Jonas has always had an easy life like most people there. They all get their food sent to them, have time to do their work, sleep, and really anything pleasurable. Jonas though, suffers really pain and horribleness by the memories.
This is a futuristic fiction book.
I liked this book, becuase it reminded me of The Hunger Games. It reminded me of that because is had a wierd goverment, and people had to follow strange rules. If you liked The Hunger Games, you are sure to love this book.
This book is a must read!
