The pope just made martyrs or some such out of thousands of catholics killed by the Spanish Republican.

This is one of those clear cases where maybe we want to be careful, sort of like in our modern language towards terrorsim.

Hint: if you are engaged in evil, like the catholic church in the civil war, than getting killed while commitying evil doesn't make you a sympathetic martyr.

Sort of like when you are commiting torture, and then someone shoots you. "Oh my, what a martyre, while he was commiting torture he was, er martyred.'

There was a right side in that war, and the catholic church picked the wrong side. A lot of people picked the wrong side.

But the left was right.

    Hi Rich,

I would like to say (or add), that catholic church help to kill and torture during more than 40 years in Spain, and in that "mega-matyrs" declaration, they didn't want to declare as a martyr, some vasque priests who were killed by fascists. (a small example)

The spanish catholic church position appear in Orwell's book too

I want to mean that declaration is political, not according to fatih and beliefs, sadly
