A political drama in a world resembling Medieval England. More cynical (realistic) than Jordan's Wheel of Time series, Martin has no qualms about killing off his main characters. The bar has been raised.

I had a slow start to this series - finally caught up with it on HBO and have decided to try reading to books. So many books... not sure I'll stay interested to read them all.

There is a lot to get through, but it is very much a gripping book series. I cannot wait for the sixth to come out.

First 2 books were amazing, third was great, fourth a little slow for my tastes. Looking forward to the 5th book.

I needed some easy reading fiction for the summer and boy, does this deliver. While Martin's saga has been compared to the Lord of the Rings, I'm not quite sure it deserves it. It reads like a TV show which makes sense because it has become a popular HBO series and because it betrays the author's own roots. There is political intrigue, drama, wolves, a few dragons and lots and lots of violence. Great book for a commute.

I've only read book one so far. This series is going to have to grow on me. I'm not an immediate fan. Too many names to keep up with, and the author presumes you know all the characters intimately. The jury is out for me, but I'll update my comments as I finish reading the next three books.
