““It’s not that I don’t like people, it’s just that there always comes a moment when I’m in the company of others—even my nearest and dearest—when I’d rather be reading a book.” I know this is sometimes true for me. I loved this sweet memoir devoted to a lifetime of literature.”

The best thing about the book would definetely be that I learned of about a hundred new books I would like to read from this book.”

So did the opening line of the introduction: "It’s not that I don’t like people. It’s just that when I’m in the company of others - even my nearest and dearest - there always comes a moment when I’d rather be reading a book."
But somewhere in the middle of the introduction, I realized that Maureen Corrigan was outlining what was to come in the rest of the book. She took about a page to describe each of the chapters that were to follow. I should have ended my reading there.

“This is a mix of lit crit and memoir that is a great read. It's worth the purchase if only for the lists on recommended reading in the back. I have always loved her reviews. ”

This is a memoir of her life in books, what has influenced and shaped the kind of person (and reader) that she has become, but rich with humor and recommendations. Anyone who likes to know how other people relate to books would enjoy this.”
