I feel this is a book with powerful feeling. It covers all the main problems of high school- not just weight, but popularity, friends, and beauty.

Carmen is a normal to slightly overweight English teenager living with her weight-obsessed mom and vague step-dad. One day her mom decides to move herself and Carmen to a whole new city, and Carmen starts taking her mom's advice, and controlling the only thing she feels she can in her life- her weight.
This is an interesting peek into the relationship between a neglectful, mentally-ill mother and her self-conscious teenage daughter, but neither of the main characters is particularly likable. The mother has next to no redeemable qualities, and Carmen makes it hard to feel sorry for her when she resorts to following the actions of the two popular girls in her class and tormenting an obese classmate.

Massive by Julia Bell is a book about a teen with an eating disorder. Her mother also has an eating disorder which i believe is what leads the daughter to having one. In the story the main character and her mother move away from her mothers ex-husband to Birmmingham. That is where the main character starts to throw up her food to become thin like her mom. In the end she realizes that this isnt the right thing to do. There is also a couple suprises at the end of the book.

Liked this a lot. Kind of a lot of the same thing, and the main character irritates me, because she's weak. But I did like it.

This book was kind of disturbing. At first I was thinking, oh great this is going to be another teen anorexia book, but as I began to read it, I noticed that is was very different. This differenece in this book is that there is no on telling Carmen no. Normally these kinds of books are about young unhealthy teenager with their parents and friends telling them about how bad anorexia is. But in this book Carmen is practically in a competition with her mom to see who can eat less. It is sad that it was her mother that drove her own daughter to a very unhealthy life style. Her mother had always been preoccupied with weight and she finally got her own daughter to obsess about it as well. When they move into a new home they practically have no food and will not eat anything until something finally shows them what it can lead to. Carmen learns many new things and takes a turn down a long dark path.
