Hands down, my favorite Himes. The situ: A mess of parades, each with their own anger and righteousness, converge on a sweltering summer day in Harlem. Enter a (PISSED, DRUNK) blind man with a pistol emerging from the subway. Some things are just beyond Coffin Ed and Grave Digger's control, I guess. Nuff said. Read it today.
