I can only give this three stars because I'm angry that the sorority *itches didn't pay for their crimes.

I didn't like the ending...could have been much better!
    The idea was good.

This was one hell of a book that left me with no definitive feeling at the end. I picked it up because the cover is gorgeous (this isn't the Australian one), the blurb was interesting and Oprah said it was 'hauntingly original', Elle 'potent and poetic.' How could I not buy it lol As it turns out both Elle and Oprah were wrong in my opinion. There were too many things I didn't like about this book, especially as the blurb reads as a paranormal book for grown ups. It took 111 pages for the hauntings to appear and after that they were few and far between. This is what I wanted to read about after all. In the last third of the book, I learnt what the raising was but this was too late in the game for me. Two big parts of the book should have been written about a lot earlier. So this book was too long for me and I wouldn't tackle it while I was working because it would seem pointless. Endless too at over 400 pages. Another aspect that annoyed me was the flipping between the past and the present. At times, I had to reread to figure out at what point in time I was supposed to be in. Headings would have been most helpful! If you like your books 'clean' like me this is the point where you decide you won't read this book because there's a ot of sex, much of it pointless. Lastly, the worst thing is that there was no real conclusion to the book. Perhaps the author wants her readers to make their own. But after investing so much time in the novel, I like answers. Jumping forward in time was a waste of space. Now that I've bagged The Raising, I will say that the book is beautifully written and the characters are vivid. Unfortunatley, it's not enough for me to recomend this book :(

It's far racier than I would normally read. I have found this author to be quite graphic, and a little too descriptive in this book.

I really enjoyed this book, it wasn't what I thought it was going to be in the beginning and the author kept you guessing. The chapters are each different and give different perspectives of each character involved, not always in the same time line either....very well done.

Fun summer read, but nothing earthshattering.
