Leonard Shlain gives a very provocative perspective regarding how the rise of literacy in different civiliaztions, usurped the power of images and also the equality/respect between men and women. What I found fascinating was how attitudes changed with the emergence of an alphabet and the coressponding shift from right brain to left brain dominance. I learned a lot about world history too.
