Wonderful story that gives the reader a very different take in vampirism. Especially when the guy winds up in court-ordered psychotherapy. Heh.

Dr. Edward Weyland is the sole remaining member of his race, as far as he knows. Infinitely old, he periodically enters a state of hibernation, from which he emerges with no memory of his past to create a new identity for himself. He has no conscious knowledge of how he came to exist, exactly what he is, or why there are no others like himself. He is a casual predator of humanity, but he isn’t a random killer. Herein lies his contradiction, because Weyland is by no means a cold-hearted murderer who disdains human beings as mere cattle.

There is no other reality for Weyland. That is, until two wounding bullets at the hands of vampire huntress Katje de Groot leave him vulnerable to a greedy third-rate Satanist named Reese, and his existence is changed forever by a frantic, knee-jerk act of compassion by a sensitive teenager named Mark. Further affected by the love of a disturbed psychiatrist named Floria and the friendship of a kindly but troubled professor named Irv, Weyland must discover if these three humans have given him a great gift - or a terrible curse...

I read this books so many years ago...probably in the the early 80s.....and enjoyed a different type of vampyre story. i would recommend this if you are tired of nite-nite in the coffin and stake thru the heart type of story.

This is a good and different vampire novel, 5 somewhat interconnected stories of strange vampire tales, not so much the blood lust type, but the thinking person's vampire. Worth the try. Evelyn S. ps I should read it again
