- Faolan: (pronounced Foe-lan)A silver malcadh with a twisted forepaw, he was left to die, but was rescued from the river and raised by Thunderheart the grizzly. "fao" means river, and "lan" means gift. He later returned to his birth Clan, competed in a gaddergnaw, and won the rank as Watch Wolf
- Gwynneth: A Masked Owl; rouge collier, and Faolan's friend who helps him on his jounies.
- Toby: A young bear cub
- Thunderheart: Deceased; Faolan's second milk giver; a grizzly
