I did not realize Nabokov's true genius until I let this book sink in for a while. I found the the greater part of the book mildly disturbing and the main character a little bit scary in the sense you weren't quite sure what he was capable of. I somehow manages to read this book from end to end despite it pushing my comfort zone. However, toward the very end I almost didn't finish and I almost forgot about the book entirely. Then reflecting on this some months later I realized that as Lolita got older the main character lost interest in her and so did I and that why the book was so hard to finish. Very few authors are able to get you this emotionally involved in a book. It's one of the reasons I love Robert A. Heinlein.
