“It was very good, but in a way it reminded me a lot of the Hunger Games. I'm not sure which came first. I also have a feeling there will be a lot of character deaths in the series.”Aly wrote this review 5 days ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“I wish characters like Tris and Katniss had been around when I was a young sci-fi/fantasy. While romance is still part of these new female-centric ya series, it is only one aspect of the larger landscape of the lives of young, heroic female protagonists.
"Divergent" offers readers a protagonist who is textured, flawed, yet ultimately empowered to make her own decisions--about family, love, devotion, and destiny. On top of that, the storyline--while still that ole familiar David-Vs-Goliath-Coming-of-Age story--manages to offer a fairly complex world and complex characters, all while proving to be suspenseful and, in places, surprising.
I am so grateful that today's YA readers don't have to go hungry, left starving for interesting female protagonists. I will continue to read this series and make sure it gets into the hands of other young women and men.”
“Well, I have finally finished one of the most successful young adult books of recent history, and I honestly couldn't be happier. Although often compared to "Hunger Games," this is a book that deserves its own special spotlight. It is the first in a series, and I am glad I read it before the movie comes out.
First things first. The profanity in the book is extremely minimal and almost not worth mentioning. But that's not the best part. The two main characters are virgins and not jumping into bed with each other! I realize that could be considered a spoiler, but I don't think it is. Young adult books have become increasingly more inappropriate in later years, and this book is a welcome relief from that. When my daughter gets a bit older, this will be the book I will want her to read.
The story, characters, and writing style are amazing in this book. I enjoyed it from the beginning, but it wasn't until the book was almost done that the action truly intensified. I cannot believe how quickly I read the book, and I can hardly wait to read the rest of the trilogy!”

“This is a story about a futuristic society where they are divided into five factions to provide for their city. Being divergent is a very frowned upon thing that must be kept a secret because it is not included in the five factions. All the divergent people must keep themselves a secret. It is a very interesting fictional book to get lost in. It is a good high school level book for personal reading.”Megan Perez wrote this review 9 days ago. “I did not think it was as well written as everyone claims. I felt it was a combination of the Harry Potter series with the Hunger Games. The book spent endless chapters on the faction initiation but then the ending was rushed. It was if the book was originally longer, and then it was made into a trilogy and cut abruptly.”Annemarie R wrote this review 9 days ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
