  • Connor O'Brien: Middle of the five O'Brien siblings, emotionally scarred by his parents divorce during his childhood, he distrusts marriage even though his parents have recently remarried each other. His job as a rising high profile divorce lawyer in a prominent Baltimore law firm reinforces his disbelief in a ring, vows and a piece of paper to hold two people together
  • Heather Donovan: Heather has know Connor since college and went into their no marriage relationship with open eyes, but after their son is born she finds she needs marriage or nothing from Connor. She's left Connor and is opening Cottage Quilts, a Quilting shop in Chesapeake Shores where Connor's family all live
  • Little Mick O'Brien: Year old son of Connor O'Brien and Heather Donovan, named for his famed architect grandfather
  • Mick O'Brien: Famous architect, who, with his brothers Jeff and Thomas, created and built Chesapeake Shores. Remarried on New Year's Eve to his wife of 23 years, he is unable to not meddle in the lives and loves of their 5 children
  • Megan O'Brien: Wife of Mick O'Brien, who divorced him a decade ago but has remarried him. Wants the happiness of their five children, and worries most about Connor who is most embittered by his parents divorce. Owns and runs a high end art gallery in Chesapeake Shores. An even match for Mick's involvement in their children's lives - if more subtle.
  • Kevin O'Brien: Older of the two O'Brien brothers. Married to Shanna, father of Davy and step-father to Henry. Former EMT.
  • Shanna O'Brien: Married to Kevin. Mother of Davy and stepmother of Henry, her alcoholic former husband's child. Runs the bookstore.
  • Jake Collins: Married to Connor's sister Bree. Runs a nursery and landscaping business
  • Bree O'Brien Collins: Married to Jake Collins, very pregnant with their first child. Runs the Flowers on Main Shop and is involved in the local theater and writes plays
  • Trace Riley: married to Connor's oldest sister Abby. A graphic designer who works out of their waterfront home
  • Abby O'Brien Winters Riley: Married to Trace. Mother of 9 year old twins Carie and Caitlyn, from her previous marriage, who like being in weddings. Abby is a financial wizard and stock-broker who lives in Chesapeake Shores, but works in Baltimore
  • Mack Franklin: O'Brien brothers' friend who claims to he's not dating their O'Brien cousin Susie, Jeff's daughter, though they are always together
  • Will Lincoln: An O'Brien brothers' friend and psychologist who likes Jess O'Brien
  • Jess O'Brien: Youngest sister of the O'Brien siblings, runs the Inn at Eagle Point in Chesapeake Shores, not allowing her ADD to interfere with he success. Will is her best friend whom she refuses to consider otherwise.
  • "Gram" Nell O'Brien: Mother of Mick O'Brien. She stepped in and raised the five children when Megan divorced Mick and moved to NYC to work in an art gallery
  • Thomas O'Brien: Mick's twice divorced brother, co-founder of Chesapeake Shores and sometimes enemy. Works in Annapolis and is an avid environmental protectionist for the Chesapeake Bay's environment - which contributed to his divorces. He's lonely and despite his divorces, is a firm believer in marriage.
  • Bridget Donovan: Heather's mother - a critical, religious, intractable Ohio woman who cut off communication with her daughter when she learned pregnant Heather was not marrying the father of her child. Taught Heather to quilt
  • Clint Wilder: film director whose messy divorce Connor is handling
  • Grayson Hudson: Senior partner of prestigious Baltimore law firm where Connor works
  • Connie Collins: Bree's sister-in-law, Jake's sister, divorced with a teenage daughter Jenny. Works for Jake
  • Laila Riley: Abby's sister-in-law, Trace's sister, single and looking
  • Jeff O'Brien: Brother of Mick and Thomas O'Brien, co-developer of Chesapeake Shores with them, he manages the business properties of Chesapeake Shores and is the father of Susie and Matt
  • Joshua Porter: Chesapeake Shores attorney thinking about retiring and looking for a partner to ease his load
  • Chelsea Martin: Joshua Martin's secretary. She was a high school classmate of Connor's
