    Spark provides many scientific studies about the positive impact that exercise can have on many aspects of life from learning through menopause. It chronicles how little we knew about the mind/body connection before the 1970's. This book provides many of the same information that was found in Brain Rules, but it contains a lot more science which is helpful. The pattern of information was so similar in each chapter, however, that by the end of the book I was just skimming to see what might be shared about specific ailments or conditions. If you are really interested in the "why" behind exercise and learning read this one. If you want to gain the interest of the general lay public, have them read Brain Rules.

    If ever there was a compelling argument made for regular exercise, this is it. The author certainly covers some thick topics, but as long as you're not compelled to remember every fact presented, this is a keeper. If you're into exercise (like me), or you want to give yourself some extra incentive to get off the couch, read this book!

    Life-changingly good book! Hard science (not just correlation, but many double-blind, control-based studies) about why physical activity makes your brain work better. Written by an MD, but very accessible & easy to read; talks about kids & learning, ADD/ ADHD, depression, alzheimer's disease & memory, anxiety disorders... huge laundry list of how & why your brain works better when you exercise regularly. It got my butt to the gym, 30 pounds ago, & I'll never go back to the way it was before I "got my gym on..." Great book! highly recommended.

    A neurological vindication for hard exercise. A quick read, pop-science (not even a single citation so you could follow up if you wanted to) look at what happens chemically in the brain with vigorous movement and resistance. I started the hundredpushups.com program immediately after finishing.
