  • Niccolao Manucci: an Italian writer and traveler who worked in the Mughal court in the service of Dara Shikoh, Shah Alam, Raja Jai Singh and Kirat Singh.
  • François Bernier: a French physician and traveler who was the personal physician of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb for 12 years. He wrote his 'Travels in the Mughal Empire', which is mainly about the reigns of Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb based on his own extensive journeys and observations, and on information from eminent Mughal courtiers who had witnessed the events at first hand.
