Emily Brontë’s only novel, Wuthering Heights
remains one of literature’s most disturbing explorations
into the dark side of romantic passion. Heathcliff and
Cathy believe they’re destined to love each other forever,
but when cruelty and snobbery separate them, their
untamed emotions literally consume them.

Set amid the wild and stormy Yorkshire moors,
Wuthering Heights, an unpolished and devastating epic
of childhood playmates who grow into soul mates, is
widely regarded as the most original tale of thwarted
desire and heartbreak in the English language.

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Linton: Linton is a minor character but he is a foil to Heathcliff because he iluminates Heathcliff's flaws by being everything he is not. He is also a very static character.
  • Catherine Earnshaw: Add a description of this character.
  • Catherine: Catherine is dynamic also because she goes from being Heathcliff's playmate and wanting nothing else to "loving" Linton and ignoring Heathcliff because she doesn't want to downgrade herself.
  • Heathcliff: He is a very dynamic character because although his love for Catherine never changes, he hardens from the abandonment of Catherine and the treatment from the rest of the family. He seeks out to get his revenge on all ho did him wrong.
  • Catherine: She is the female protagonist in Wuthering Heights. She is faced with the tough decision to follow her heart or marry the person that can support her better. She clearly loves Heathcliff. Her dying in child birth is the climax in the story.
  • Cathy: Cathy is the daughter of Catherine and Edgar Linton. She has her mother's temperment but is kind of mellowed out by her dad's personality.
