- Bethany Wylie: Main character and narrator.
- Reana Mae Colvin: Who the story is mainly about
- Tracy: Bethany's sister who acts "crazy" at times with tantrums and mean actions.
- Jolene: Reana's mother
- Caleb: Reana's uncle who lives with her family for awhile
- Bobby Lee: Reana's father/Jolene's husband. He drives a truck and is never home.
- Aunt Helen: Bethany's mother, who takes in Reana Mae when she needs to do this, even tho it brings trouble for all of them.
- Ruthann: Another cousin to Bethany and Reana Mae. Sort of an outsider to their twosome, but Bethany becomes closer to her as they grow up.
- Melinda: Oldest sister of Bethany's family. Enough older that Bethany doesn't interact all that much with her.
- Harley Boy: Son of Harley the minister, always in love with Reana Mae, but the love is not returned. Still, they all do things together in the hills of W. Virginia.
- Belle: The aunt they all look up to, the wife of a deceased uncle who made plenty of money in his business, so Belle has the big house where they all gather when the family gets together for holidays. Belle also knows what to do in dire circumstances
