  • Dana Yarboro: tired of a life in the shadows,craves love and attention and being openly acknowledged and validated. Smart student and very inquisitive. Aspires to attend Mount Holyoke and eventually confronts her father's lies,infidels and his actions. Becomes a mother and learns that life is not fair...what doesn't kill you doesn't always make you stronger.....it just happens to you.
  • James Witherspoon: a bigamist, Dana's father. A selfish man, a loyal son, bases his life on what he wants without fair assessment of what his actions are doing to others he is in relationship with.
  • Ronalda: Dana's best friend,Nkrumra's sister. From Indiana. Has plenty issues of her own in terms of her mother being negligent and being shipped to live with her father and step mother in ATL. She is into an older man in the military, drinks and smokes. She understands Dana and offers her empathy.
  • Willie Mae: Gwendolyn's best friend and Dana's Godmother
  • Marcus Mccready: Dana's boyfriend. Son of the Tax Accountant for her dad's Limo Service. Her father hates this boy and his reputation and forbids Dana to date him.
  • Gwendolyn Yarboro: Dana's mother. A strong black, intelligent woman who works as a nurse and wants every advantage for her duaghter. However, she is willing to settle for less in her own life! Pretty, sophisticated and adored by Raleigh and James...but not enough to openly acknowledge marriage?
