- Sarah Lynn: Seventeen-year-old girl homesick for her old life. Because of her mother being in jail, she has to move and live with her aunt. She misses her best friend Sydney back in California but Angel Moreno helps to take her mind off home and possibly give her a reason to stay.
- Angel Moreno: Tall, dark and handsome seventeen-year-old, very intense, alpha-type. He doesn't believe that a boy and a girl can become friends.
- Sydney: Sarah's best friend. Angel assumes he is a girl upon hearing his name and gets jealous of the relationship Sarah and Sydney have. Sydney has a girlfriend called Carina.
- Alex Moreno: Angel's older brother, a college student, lady's man who has a sort of relationship with Sarah's cousin Valerie.
- Valerie Zuniga: Sarah's cousin, whose family Sarah lived with, has a crush on Alex and starts to date him on and off without any commitment.
- Eric: One of Angel's best friends, has a secret crush on Sofia. He is the more sensible of the group.
- Ramon Romero: One of Angel's best friends, loud, funny, liked to be called Romero. He can often be the one with an alcoholic drink in his hand. Kisses Valerie which angers Alex Moreno.
- Sofia Moreno: Angel's baby sister, has a secret crush on Eric and the feelings are reciprocated. She runs track with Sarah.
- Dana: A cheerleader at school, had a crush on Angel, tried to come between Sarah and Angel. Her and angel had an on/off relationship before Sarah moved there.

- Jesse Strickland: A boy Sarah went out with once
- Sal Moreno: Angel's oldest brother
- Rudy: The coach of the track team. Very young, and there are lots of rumors about him. He tried to kiss Sarah during a trip to the mountains
