“When I first read the summary of the book I thought it was a weird idea to have such a train. I kind of got worried about how the events will turn on. But as I go in reading I couldn’t stop from going from a page to another. It’s a very easy and good read. I liked the idea (although it seems typical) of the guy who thinks of himself as average and worthless and have a bad family situation who ends up as special as he could ever imagine.
As I went on reading I enjoyed the way Kurt described the scenes. A very specific description without over doing it leaving you the right to add some colors or small details depending on your imagination.
The characters were well described, although I wasn’t sure if it was normal that Lana who came from India would have Blond hair. And I was a bit uncomfortable to see that Ahmed from Saudi Arabia is the “unfriendly one” or Krixit the evil one who is from Egypt, I hope that was just a coincidence and not because they’re Arabs and it’s out of discrimination.
The fact that Ethan is being influenced by the evil forces was a little bit uncomfortable at first, because it is very rare when you see the main character falling to the bad side. Although his situation is very normal and his reaction to those sudden magical possessions is natural. It’s like an arriviste seeking power, money and fame and doing anything to get them.
As the story goes by and all those information gets unfold you can see that Kurt made great efforts collecting information and making research and also going wild with his imagination. The heart incident was a slight shock since I was too involved in the story and it came on all of a sudden like watching a thriller movie, but I liked the meaning of it.
The idea of the book is very original I easily compared it in my mind with Harry Potter or House of night series, although I’d love it if there’s more description of the courses and the life on the train.
Over all the book is a success, I congratulate Kurt for this great accomplishment and I can’t wait for the second volume of the story.
