I picked up this book because I oaccasionally like a blood and guts thriller, and I enjoyed most of Patrica Cornwell's novels. Deja Dead has a female protagonist, a foreign setting (Montreal), and lots of details about forensic investigation, all good things for me. It was a page turner with lots of suspense, athough I felt like it came together awfully quickly at the end. In many ways it seems like an episode of CSI. I read this book because I am a fan of the show "Bones", not necessarily a murder mystery or forensics fan. Unfortunately, the book really lacked the likeable and interesting characters that the show contains. I found the level of detail for the forensics interesting, but the mystery and characters lacked depth or interest. It may be the characters grow on you with subsequent books in the series (I think there are 10 now), but I'm not going to be spedning any of my time finding out.

I just got finished reading Deja Dead ... I really enjoyed reading it. I found it well written and suspenseful. I was absorbed into the story and the characters are well defined. This book/author was recommended to me by a good friend and I would like to add my recommendation along with hers. I will be reading more Kathy Reichs.
