I really like Ms. Feehan's vampire conception. The Carpathian male are programed with the need to hold their mates to them. They are imprinted with the binding words at birth. They have no choice, they must bind their ONE true mate to them, if they don't their only choices are to destroy themselves or turn vampire. All the Carpathian male try to be patient with their mates, and I empathise with the females having to come to grips with first, the idea of Carpathians and Vampires really existing, then to have this stranger telling you that you are their mate. Because
the couples are "DESTINED" - designated/dedicated in advance, they will love each other. They do all the things needed to make each other happy. The Carpathian warriors have protected his people and the human race from vampires for centuries. I would not want any of these honorable Carpathian males to go without their mate once he has found her.
IMHO, when the Prince called his mate "little one," it not said to be disrespectful. It's a endearment and also amazement that she is so much smaller than himself. I really love this series.

Of course all this is fantasy and that's why I read it. Love using my imagination. If I want reality, I can always read the news paper or watch the news on TV.
