I think Clavell was a master story teller. His depth of culture, history and character development is totally engrossing. Some prefer Sho-gun or King Rat and maybe Nobel House, but I was intrigued by Tai Pan.

Dirk Struan, what a character!!! Perhaps one of my most favorite character. I heard that Dirk Struan was based on a real person, the founder of Jardines Group, based in Hongkong. The ending, although quiete unsatisfatory, in my opinion is brilliant.
