Moonflute by Audrey Wood (illustrated by Don Wood) is a story about a little girl who cannot sleep because of the bright, glowing moonlight shining through her window. She decides to go out her window, into the night, to find her sleep. Suddenly a moonbeam turns into a magic flute that takes her on a journey to find out what the moon has done with her sleep. This text of this story contains beautiful metaphors which create vivid imagery for the reader. The illustrations are finely detailed and mystical in nature.

    Classroom Uses:
    - Intro to lessons about the solar system, and sun and moon
    - Intro to lessons about animals and their habitats
    - Similes and metaphors

    Delicious Quote:
"Garlands of moss hung from their limbs, looking like old men's beards swaying in the breeze."
