The second book in my Intellectual Capitalism Series, it deals with “effectiveness” in the new business equation, discussing why it is more important than “efficiency” in knowledge firms.

In an example of knowledge creep, it also introduces the crucial difference between a key performance indicator and a key predictive indicator, while challenging the famous McKinsey maxim of “what you can measure you can manage” by suggesting we cannot change our weight by weighing ourselves. Other topics include: constructing a theory, developing KPIs for your company, increasing knowledge worker effectiveness, managing by results versus managing by means, the moral hazards of measurements, an extensive bibliography, and suggested reading list.
