A fantasy series where the protagnist is a leper who pretty much hates everyone (including himself) for good reasons, and doesn't even believe the "Land" he's in is real (he thinks its a delusion while he lies unconscious). But the people of this land declare him a hero, because he is a "half...

Couldn't get past the self-pitying rapist as hero in this series so only read the 1st (Lord Foul's Bane) and will not read the rest of this trilogy or sequels

Excellent fantasy, but a little hard reading. This still borrows a little too heavily on Tolkien, but the emphasis is completely different.

A have-to-read for fantasy fans. Classic. I haven't started the new ones.

One of my all time favorite top 5 books, but can be extremely depressing and/or disturbing, but I loved the world that Donaldson created and the anti hero Covenant, who just can't do the right thing

A fantasy series where the protagnist is a leper who pretty much hates everyone (including himself) for good reasons, and doesn't even believe the "Land" he's in is real (he thinks its a delusion while he lies unconscious). But the people of this land declare him a hero, because he is a "half hand" like a lengend and wears white gold which makes him powerful(his wedding ring from his wife who left him to "protect their son" when she found out he had leprosy). Then they ask him to save them from "Despite."

Do I have your attention yet? One of the great stories of the ages, told through six books (and now continuing through 3 more, 2 of which were out). I first read this in college. This story genuinely changed my outlook on the world. I've reread it several times and it always means something different to me at different points in my life.

Personally think this outranks Tolkein. All six books are beautifully written, complex and moving with a truly original hero. Many of the themes and characters are familiar from the fantasy genre but there are also plenty of new ideas. Characters have depth and grow in the course of the story. A stunning achievement. I've recently read the first in the latest trilogy - Runes of the Earth - and cant wait for the next.

This first trilogy is better than the second, in my opinion. Great adventures, great concepts, great characters, great stories. The most annoying thing in the first few books is that the main character has so much self pity, although it was necessary for his character development. It still made it hard for me to keep reading, but everything else overcame that annoyance, and kept me having to find out what happened next.
