“I've been waiting forever for this book to become available in the US! Jasper Fforde is one of my favorite authors, and this book is full of his easily recognizable writing style. This is his first book for younger readers and the first in series. (How long will I have to wait for book 2 now?) I enjoyed reading this story about a time when magic is common and magicians are used for all kinds of household tasks. Jennifer Strange is an almost 16 year old caretaker of the Kazam Agency and a magician "handler" or agent. Through a series of events, she finds out that she is the next (and last) dragonslayer and a premonition shows her having to kill the last known dragon. Jennifer is incredibly level-headed and mature with a strong moral code. She never once wavers or shows any weakness, and so her character lacks some interest because she somehow knows exactly what to do in all of the situations presented. She's almost *too* clever. Perhaps we will find out more about her in the next book that will even out her character some. A quick and fun read!”
