I saw an edition that had purple pages..I read it years ago and want to ask something..why is it called 'The Color Purple'? I'm sure there is a symbolic reason for the title I don't know if it ever says so in the book, if so I must have missed it.

A good book indeed. I don't see anything negative about it. I've heard several men say that it degrades their species, however, I have also heard Real men say, "it is about time someone was brave enough to publish the truth now maybe there will be changes. Maybe now, my brothers will see the light and stop thinking they have the right to abuse women." The Color Purple is a classic indeed!

I just finished reading this book; I was htinking the same thing. She was so far ahead of her time, and I remember the controversy surrounding the book and the movie, although I was very young at that time. I am so glad I got a copy of this book. I have the other one---Same River Twice--- on hold at the library. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to get through that one also. I'm planning to get the DVD also, to watch it all over again (as an adult :o) I'm blogging on it at my new blogspace soon, so you can stop by and let me know what you think.bookdiva4chocwww.classybookdiva.wordpress.com

OK; I finished this book last night, or should I say about 3 am this morning. I was NOT going to bed without finishing this book! It was one of the best I have ever read, and I am quite picky about my books :o)I read this book as part of a 50 book reading challenge, and I wanted to read a Pulitzer Prize winner or National Book Award winner, and I believe this one was both. I'm glad I picked it up. When the book was published, I was really young, so I didn't even think about it much, but NOW..WOW! I wanted to cry, not only because of the plot and thematic content, but because Walker is such a magnificent writer. I don't guess this is really a review, but this is just the way I feel about this book. I really enjoyed the way that the theme of LOVE was presented throughout the book, and I will never look at the color, purple, the same way again. I'll blog about this on my blogspace at www.classybookdiva.wordpress.com when I get a chance, so be sure to check me out there and let me know what you think of the book also.
I know. I wish I had gone to see it, but I was too busy. I saw this movie when I was much younger, and I have a much stronger response to it now. I can't believe it!

That movie is a classic...Every female I know love's it! The book is more detailed than the movie..but it's still a great book. I'm a big fan of both...
