“This is a enjoyable novel that's entirely about British domestic life in the country. There's some humor. Among the well-rounded characters that make up the life in the small British village described are the manipulative, pretentious stepmother and the earnest, sensitive, long-suffering squire's son. Those who enjoy details of 19th century domestic and family life will find it a fine read.”
