Clara is a slave who was transferred to a plantation, away from her mom and family. She is now being raised by an aunt who is not blood related, and she has made a vow to get her family back. Her aunt teaches her to sew so she can leave the fields and work inside the Big House as a seamstress. Clara wants to escape, but her aunt warns her not to. Clara is determined. She works for months sewing for the Missus all day, and quilting in her spare time; meanwhile planning her escape. She listens to the conversations of others to gain details about the land and the way to the underground railroad. But, will she find a way to piece the information together and escape to freedom?
