  • India Black: Abbess (Madam/Owner) of the Lotus House and a "damned handsome woman" who gave up the game several years ago. Lithe and buxom with a cloud of raven hair, cobalt blue eyes and creamy English complexion. Enjoys her freedom.
  • Mrs. Drinkwater: The cook at the Lotus House. Occassionally surly and inevitably intoxicated.
  • Bowser (a.k.a. Sir Archibald Latham): British civil servant and regular Sunday afternoon customer who worked in the War office. Enjoyed dressing up in Queen Victoria's mouning clothes acting out his fantasies with Arabella Cloud.
  • Reverand Charles Calthorp: A Low Church do-gooder who committed his life to helping those less fortunate that himself, whether they wanted his help or not. He felt the Lotus House girls were in need of his assistance.
  • Vincent: A street urchin between the ages of ten to fourteen. He was toad-faced, quarrelsome and cunning, with the heart of a mercenary. He was also the dirtiest boy in London. A skilled snoop, he was skilled finding useful information and had no problems using it to his advantage. Because of his street knowledge, India screened any new girls through him. Ironically, he had his own code of ethics. He never failed to perform a commission, gave a value for money received, only blackmailed those who deserved it and was a silent as the Sphinx about his activities. India trusted him.
  • Mr. French: Cold grey eyes, swarthy skin, blue black hair, a handsome devil. He exhibited a cold and appraising eye and was quick and efficient.
